Is Music Lucrative in Ghana?

Come to think of it, many artistes have been able to break through the musical realms successfully getting Ghanaians in their dancing shoes and shouting their lungs out. Countless names could be mentioned with the hit makers whose songs made the payment of ‘payola’ not an option.

Day in and out, the media premiers the play of songs, some which really makes people ask themselves “how many days did he/she take to write the song?” others also receives ‘wow’ exclamations from many with first play.

Using the United States as a measure gauge, most musician make one single hit and are able to stay in the Beverly Hills with the already made stars, they are able to afford the driving in Rolls Royce and Lamborghini’s. Yes, their economy is bigger than Ghana so what do you expect? Yes they are first world countries so what why not? Yes, their advancement in the musical world is beyond the whole of Africa, so?

It is so pathetic that, some musicians in Ghana, who are known by many in Ghana with single major hit cannot even purchase Blacberry Curve, Freezer, Opel Record nor afford a soul soothing over night stay in the standard room at Golden Tulip Hotel with their ‘supposed’ hit.

This reporter being friends with already made stars and single hit makers could mention countless names but for confidentiality sake, let’s reserve that for later discussions. The question here is, are the fans supporting those who help make their days with great songs? Is the Music Industry designed to help those who are hoping to raise a family with this career? Are the musicians themselves not strategic enough to make money from it?

Kwaw Kese is known to plainly pour that, “Ghanaian Musicians are poor” with the exclusion of Reggie Rockstone and himself.

Fame without money is like car without any fuel.
