“Musicians Can Perform On Political Platforms” President Obour

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) was seen in the 2008 campaigns to be introducing Ghanaian Artistes on their platforms performing favourite songs of the people. Most Artistes who performed were branded as NPP sympathizers. Daddy Lumba, broke his political virginity by stretching to do a song for Nana Akuffo Addo, the flag bearer of the NPP and was then seen by many as the Number 1 NPP Activist.
Political campaigns have not seen Ghanaian Artists ever since 2008, for the reason best known to the songsters themselves. Either refraining from the tagging with political parties or maintaining their anonymous political identity, Artists in Ghana had said ‘bye’ to political parties.
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2012 heard the President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour known in the music circles as Obour mention that, Musicians are free to perform on political platforms. “You know we are in the election year and we want peace. Musicians can perform on political platforms”, he stated. For his short given reason, the newly elected president of the Musicians Union explained that, “we need money”, a statement which followed with an action of robbing his thumb across the other fingers.
This statement which has been the discussion of the Showbiz Department of www.233times.net since Obour’s release is seen as bringing division among the musicians as politics has the high strength of separation. To him (Obour), his reasons seem to take the pros dimension of his ‘workers’ without much attention to the cons of politics.
To the musicians, though the President of the union they are ‘umbrelled’ has shown the green light, it will depend on them to whether conform to it to fill their bank accounts or stay out of political platforms and maintain their political anonymity.
