Division among Ghanaian Artists is what is killing Ghana Music

gm_artistes_xmas_625x351_01Before putting this piece together, I visited all the International websites and Media to be sure on how they recognize Ghanaian Artists when they win International Awards. First on BET, I surfed on how Sarkodie was recognized when he swept that Award as the Best International Act (Africa).

On BET, Sarkodie was recognized as the Best International Act who is from Ghana. For a minute, I was wondering why they did not state “Sarkodie from Tema”. Alright, dropped! I would want to ask this question, “Where are Wizkid and MI from in Nigeria?” Don’t surf Google, just answer.

It is a great feeling to be raising the flag of your community high when you break through a hectic Music Industry in Ghana but that should not be taken to the extreme. What will be best is to help the amateur ones in your Region to gain more limelight.

As a Celebrity Publicist, I attend a lot of Events and sit in a lot of Boards that sieve Artists for major Events in Ghana. Any time there is an Artist name on board, there would be examination on his/her prowess. Some of the Board members who are Artists themselves only push for those in their environs even when they are not best fit for the event.

Surprisingly, some Sound Engineers do not produce some Artists because they are not from their Region. In an interview with Possi Gee, a Sound Engineer who is based in Tema, he mentioned that he is one of the few Sound Engineers who records everyone regardless of where they are from. This confirmed the division among them.

Another revelation is that, some Artists refuse features from others who are not from their Region and even if they accept to feature on a song; they conditionally give specific Sound Engineers who are from their Region.

Undeniably, Ghana Music is doing well and going far but it would do fabulously well if the unity is strengthened. It is not accidental that our Elders left us with a proverb that “when you take a single stick of broom, it can be broken easily within a flash but together, a whole broom can never be broken.

I would go on and on and on and continue with references if I am to write for long but I would want to end here to avoid stepping on any toe because I have nausea to spew out names and incidences.

This is my microscopic analysis of why Ghana Music is in a limbo.

The word to the wise …………………………………………….
