Some categories of this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards such as Highlife and Reggae/Ragga are not getting entries.
The Gospel Category which has in previous editions been very competitive hasn’t also seen much entries this year.
Nominations for the 14th edition opened early January, according to organizers, Charter House Production.
Executive Director of the company, Mrs Theresa Ayoade said: “The Board has been in place since January 2013 and has been working on shortlisting, categorizing and verifying the various entries.”
“It’s been a very challenging process and gives us a fair idea of how the industry has fared over the past year, the emerging trends in the music industry and so on,” she said.
Meanwhile, the HipLife category is said to be oversubscribed with very strong competition for the “Collaboration of the Year” award whilst the Hip hop and Afro Pop categories have seen a fair amount of entries.
The full nomination list will be announced at the event launch slated for February 23.
This year’s event, being the second year of the partnership with Vodafone promises to build on the giant strides it took last year to propel the music industry to the next level, she promised.
