Microsoft’s founder and chairman and world’s second richest person Mr Bill Gate is in the country to ascertain himself with the country’s health delivery system and get firsthand information on the immunization system being used and why its performing so well.
Bill Gate made this known in his personal website thegatesnotes.com earlier on today. As he is in the country, he will visit many health institutions in the country particulary in the Central region, see the manager of the immunization program,Dr K.O. Antwi-Agyei and also interact with well-trained community health nurses.
His visit is as result of great strides made by the country in the health sector, such as eliminating polio, no child dying from measles since 2002 and Ghana being the first country to launch two new vaccines last April, against Rotavirus, which causes severe diarrhea, and pneumococcal.
According to him, “Ghana’s approach to immunization works so well for a few key reasons: Rigorous data gathering and analysis, accountability at the district level, and community outreach. Just as importantly, the vaccination program is fully integrated into the health system. But there’s really no substitute for seeing it on the ground”.
He also plans to share some of his experience in Ghana at the Global Vaccine Summit in Abu Dhabi April 24-25.
You are welcome to Ghana, Mr Bill Gate!.
