President John Mahama’s assertion that he has been enduring sleepless nights due to the recent power crisis is a lie , says Ursula Owusu.

Rather, the Ablekuma West MP said, President Mahama is unable to enjoy his sleep because he knows the outcome of the election petition brought against him in court will not favour him.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and two others asked the Supreme Court to look into what they say was massive irregularities during the 2012 polls.

At a ‘Let My Vote Count Alliance’ rally held at the Dansoman Control Market in the Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu accused the president of conniving with some Electoral Commission (EC) officials to rig the polls to ensure he remained in office.

She stated that according to the evidence compiled by the NPP, which will be laid bare in court, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 59.7% of the total votes cast whilst John Mahama obtained some 39%. Knowing he will soon be declared ex-president, Ursula claimed, Mr Mahama was worried and is therefore unable to sleep.

At the same event, the MP for Ablekuma North, Justice Joe Appiah said the evidence presented by the petitioners in the ongoing Supreme Court case is so strong that the court will rule in favour of the petitioners.

“Even if Johnson Asiedu Nketsiah is made the only Supreme Court judge in this case, he will have no option but to rule, making Nana Akufo-Addo the President of Ghana and declare that John Mahama did not rightfully win the 2012 election,” he added.

Mr Appiah urged Ghanaians to remain steadfast and calm whilst the case is prosecuted in court, saying the outcome of the case will vindicate the NPP’s position that the 2012 results were massively rigged in favour of John Mahama.
