University Teachers Association of Ghana threatens to embark on strike effective April 2

Univesity of GhanaThe University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) have also threatened to embark on strike effective Tuesday April 2.
In a statement signed by the National President of UTAG, Dr. Anthony Simmons, it said UTAG members will withdraw all teaching services in all public Universities to back its demand for immediate payment of all salary arrears owed its members since 2012.

In addition, UTAG is also demanding that the agreed market premium factor be applied to the current basic salary as the appropriate restoration per their earlier communiqué.

Speaking to XYZ News, Dr. Anthony Simmons dispelled claims that the recent strike actions by several unions are politically motivated.

He added that the strike being embarked by UTAG is as a result of the failure by government to fulfill its promises.

UTAG’s threat to embark on strike follows that of the Ghana Medical Association which also threatened to embark on another strike by next week.

NAGRAT and GNAT on Tuesday called off their strike after several deliberations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the President.
