“I am ARROGANT” J TOWN

J-Town3Christianed Stefen Menson, J Town  is the 1st Ghanaian Channel O VJ , Winner of 2008 Spirite Emcee Africa Rap Battle and also the 1st Ghanaian to go number 1 on the MTN Top 10 Charts in Nigeria with his hit single 1 Plus 1 ft Ice Prince & E Fine and now works with channel O.

Speaking about his yet to be launched album on the viasat morning show “THIS MORNING” the versatile musician/rapper admitted being arrogant at some time earlier in his career when he noticed he was getting succesfull by the day. To him, his mum, family and friends where there to keep him in check. His album title “BRIGHT LIGHTS AND DARK SHADES” he explained means his success as an artist which refers to the BRIGHT LIGHT and the DARK SHADES are his loved ones, both family and friends espeacially his mum who keeps him in check. In other words they tone his bright light and not let him loose his humble background cos he comes from a very humble background.

This is my take on this, this shows maturity of an artist, one am yet to see in most of the young artists in Ghana from music, radio, tv and movies all round. Ego’s getting the better side of talented people which turns people away from them. J Town admitted his mother was his main check point, who gets him on track. Kudos J that’s what matured artistes should do, admit wrongs when it does happen, being famous and a star never takes away your human qualities.

Touching on his accent, which he claims people walk up to him and ask why he slangs? Which a lot of Ghanaians ask espeacialy when you speak good English. Jay admits having an American accent but hey he says “it aint ma fault I was raised in america”. He further explained he was born in ghana moved to the US and returned back to the motherland. To him doing music in English makes him reach to a wider audience outside Ghana yet he still does local dailects in his songs when its necessary. He confirmed his main Ghananian music influence comes from the acclaimed oldest rapper if I may say Gyedu Blay Ambulley .

But J Town seems to have put on a lot of weight, we all know he was well built already but appearing on “THIS MORNING” painted a different picture and although he had on jeans with a hoody sweat top. It was visible loads of weight was being hidden beneath the clothes and that was confirmed when the cameraman gave us a an almost full length shot of him standing while being interviewed. Obolo J Town.

J Town produced 97% of the album himself, so far he has collaborated with stars like Sway, Sarkodie, Jayso, Black Prophet, Tuface and a lot more. His Jmixes mixtape had over 140,000 downloads. He further gave us more beautiful songs like “HOLLY HOOD”and “GUN AND ROSES”.

His new album is set to drop on 26th of April 2013. J. Town is the executive producer of the album and worked with 3 other producers, Gafacci, Silimbo and Steven Mahona.
