Woman arrested for stealing a four-month-old baby

300..1.1396557The Asamankese police in the Eastern Region have arrested a 40-year-old mother of three, Felicia Frimpomaa, for stealing a four-month-old baby girl.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akyem Oda yesterday, the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo-Peprah, said the suspect and the complainant, 29-year-old Adwoa Akyaa, live in the same house at Asamankese.

Akyaa, he said, realised that her four-month-old baby girl was missing from her house on April 10, 2013.
Chief Supt. Sarfo-Peprah said after combing the area in vain for the baby, Akyaa accompanied by the suspect, Frimpomaa, lodged a complaint with the Asamankese police later who searched the area fruitlessly for the baby.

The divisional commander said the police had information that Frimpomaa was hiding at Akooko in the East Akyem District and managed to arrest her at her hideout last Monday, May 20, 2013.

Frimpomaa told the police and journalists at Oda yesterday that she stole the baby because she was attracted by the baby’s beauty.

According to her, after stealing the baby, she gave her to someone identified only as Asoko to take her to Suhum where she later collected the baby.

Frimpomaa stated that she hid in Mamprobi, in Accra for sometime and left about two weeks ago with the baby to settle at Akooko where her brother works.

The suspect pleaded with the police to pardon and release her since the devil compelled her to commit the crime.

Frimpomaa, a native of Akyem Apedwa, said as a mother of three; two boys and a girl, with the eldest son in senior high school at Somanya, there was no need for her to steal someone’s four-month-old baby girl.

Chief Supt. Sarfo-Peprah, however, stated that Frimpomaa would be put before court as soon as the police completed their investigations.
