RLG has written to MPs to select a site in their constituency for a bore-hole at its expense

Roland Agambire’s RLG has written to Members of Parliament, inviting each lawmaker to select a site in his or her constituency for a bore-hole to be drilled at the expense of the Ghanaian-owned ICT giant. 

RLG’s letter to the Clerk of the Ghanaian Legislature comes at a time of intense public pressure on Parliament to initiate a probe into reports of alleged misuse of state funds by the producer. 

A copy of the letter seen by CitiNews said the bore-holes will be sponsored by the RLG Foundation headed by Prosper Harrison-Addo. 

“The Foundation would like to re-affirm its commitment to sponsor the drilling of a borehole for each constituency in Ghana as part of our corporate social responsibilities,” the letter, signed by Prosper Harrison-Addo and dated May 16, 2013 said. 

It added: “In view of that, I would like to request a list of the towns in the 275 constituencies where the bore-holes will be sited.

“Please find attached a form to be completed by each Honorable Member which will provide us with the above information,” it said, adding: “While apologizing for the delay in the take-off of the project, we are confident that we can count on your continued cooperation in the quest to ensure the provision of potable water to all our citizens”.

In circulating RLG Foundation’s letter to lawmakers, the Clerk to Parliament, Emmanuel Anyimadu, wrote an internal memo in which he said: “Please find attached a communication from the RLG Foundation in respect of a proposal to sponsor the drilling of bore-holes in the 275 Parliamentary Constituencies.

“The RLG Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to the promotion and implementation of social development initiatives and programs with the objective of improving the social well-being of the people in its operational area and beyond.

“In furtherance to the above objective, the RLG Foundation under the auspices of its ‘Water for All’ initiative intends to sponsor the drilling of a borehole each in all the Parliamentary constituencies in Ghana.”

The last two paragraphs of the memo, dated 10th June, 2-13, said: “It shall therefore be appreciated if interested Hon. Members of parliament would indicate, by completing the attached form, the most appropriate town/community the bore-hole should be sited.

“The attached completed form should be submitted to the protocol Office of Parliament, Room B7 at the basement of the Chamber Block”
