A deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Murtala Mohammed has said that the victims of the Kumasi central market fire will also benefit from the fund established by the government to assist the traders who have been victims of the recent market fires.
The Kumasi central market on Sunday was gutted by fire which destroyed several properties and merchandise worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
President John Mahama last week directed that a GH¢2 million fund be established to assist victims of the recent market fires in Accra to help provide some relief for the fire victims.
About six major markets in the Greater Accra Market were destroyed by fire in the first quarter of this year. The Kumasi Central market fire has brought the number to seven.
During the daily press briefing at the Flagstaff House on Monday, Mr. Mohammed explained that “unfortunately, Kumasi has happened and they certainly will be part and parcel of that particular victim… they certainly will be covered.”
“Aside this GH¢2 million that is established at a seed capital to assist these people, the MASLOC assistance…still stands and the MASLOC covers everybody everywhere,” he added.
