Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West of the New Patriotic (NPP), Ursula Owusu has stridently called on government to stop embezzling public funds and rather fix the ‘broken’ economy.
An emotive Ursula Owusu, accused the government of squandering the nation’s money in advance, thereby running the country into deficits and hardships.
Commenting on the proposal by government to impose new taxes on goods and services on OmanFM on Wednesday, the Ablekuma West MP called on the government to do its homework well, stating firmly that the Mahama-led government “cannot tax and spend their way out of trouble”; they “need to fix our economy.”
To her, government officials under the Mahama administration are punching ‘holes’ in the pockets of Ghanaians and looting them; an act she believes has created revenue leakages for the economy.
The monies, which should be channeled into the financial coffers of the nation, are “flowing into some people’s pockets”, she disclosed.
The NPP firebrand also accused some government officials of owning properties in foreign countries like Dubai, which do not correspond with their salaries, and thus admonished government to investigate its officials.
“They know them. What steps are they taking to penalize them?…The government is aware, what steps are they taking to check procurement malpractices?” she stated. |
