University Teachers Association of Ghana to strike from 1st August

IMG_0479The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has given indications its members will not rescind on their decision to withdraw their services beginning 1st August, 2013 if government fails to respect an agreement regarding the payment schedule of 2012 market premium arrears by the 31st of July.

According to the group, though its members had fulfilled their side of the agreement concluded during the negotiation process, government had not been forthcoming on its responsibilities.

National Vice President of University Teachers Association of Ghana, Kakraba Bakubo in an interview with Citi News said: “UTAG has played its part; this time its government that has failed and therefore if people are going to talk to anybody, then it should be to government.”

We don’t have a problem now. I think the problem is with government and therefore anybody who wants to resolve the issue should clearly begin talking to the government to be sensitive.”

It will be recalled that UTAG called off a 13-day strike in April after a meeting with government and relevant stakeholders where they reached an agreement that their arrears from 2012 will be paid in a four-month installment package from April to July.
