Finally: Supreme Court confirms Mahama as the winner of the 2012 presidential elections

President-John-MahamaThe Supreme Court has confirmed President John Dramani Mahama as the “validly elected” president of Ghana and winner of the 2012 presidential elections.

The petitioners who filed the petition challenging the results of the 2012 presidential elections were seeking to have the votes annulled and have subsequently declare the presidential candidate of the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the winner of the December 2012 elections.

Giving the ruling Justice William Atuguba said “this is the decision we have arrived at the after the scrutinizing of the petition, we have found out that the issues to be determined are as set out, at page 125 the counsel for the petitioners as follows: Over voting, voting without biometric verification, through absence of the signature of the presiding officer and duplicate serial numbers. We unanimously dismiss the claims relating to duplicate serial numbers, duplicate polling station codes.”

Per the ruling, President John Dramani Mahama remains president of the country.

Three key members of the party, Chairman of the NPP Mr Obetsebi Lamptey, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia filled the petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the results of the 2012 presidential elections.
