Management of The Quest Multimedia has announced Saturday, 5th October 2013 as the date for the Skola Poetry Jam which is scheduled to take place at the Action Secondary Technical School in Accra.
The four schools to battle it out for the ultimate prize at the 2013 Skola Poetry Jam are Action Senior Technical School, Ghana Lebanon Islamic School, Accra High School and Anisa Senior High School. Skola Poetry Jam, a poetry recital and spoken word competition for high school students between the ages of sixteen (16) and eighteen (18) years started last year under the auspices of the Ministry of Education.
A blend of literature and live performance, winner at this year’s edition of Skola Poetry Jam will win a cash prize of GHC1,000 and will also participate in an all-expense paid two-week spoken word, writing and performance workshop alongside three other finalist organized by Urban Word Nyc in the United States Of America. Commenting on the 2013 Skola Poetry Jam, Chief Executive Officer of The Quest Multimedia, Mr. Faisal Bashiru (Biggabro), revealed that Skola Poetry Jam started as a pilot program in the Nima-Maamobi Community Library(Kathy Knowles Theatre) as an exciting approach to inculcating the culture of reading into the youth of that community.
“This year, Skola Poetry will be bigger and better and I encourage all participating schools and students to put in their very best to win the ultimate prize at stake. It is our vision to impact on society by providing the younger generation with the platforms and avenues to grow their potentials”. Judges for this year’s event are Abdul Moonen Muslim (Chief Moonen) and Bedwei Kweku Sonny (Rhyme Sonny) who will be judging the competitors on creativity, originality, imagery ability, artistic quality and mastery of poetic expression. 2013 Skola Poetry Jam promises to be another great event after the success of the maiden edition last year.
