If anyone would shut Sarkodie up on creation of Azonto, it shouldn’t/can’t be Gasmilla

7072ec10-b69a-4fa7-acaa-3252bd2b8f7aAfter the moon ended its work of providing light, something it does better than ECG, Flex Newspaper broadcasted a link which was headlined “Sarkodie Has No Audacity To Claim Ownership Of Azonto – Gasmilla Breaks Loose”

This whole brouhaha about Sarkodie’s creation of Azonto started when the only BET Award winner from Ghana appeared on BBC to explain how his song “You go Kill me” made ‘Azonto’ popular. He (Sarkodie) ended by saying “…. So I can say I birthed Azonto”. This statement since made on BBC has not made a lot Ghanaian Songsters comfortable especially those with ‘Azonto CVs’.

“Gasmilla revealed that he was the first musician to produce an azonto video and that his ”aboodatoi” track which helped to bring to the forefront in the music industry was first uploaded by legacygh on July 28,2011 and was later uploaded by Ghanapromo on their YouTube channel on September 18,2011” he stated during interview with Flex Newspaper.

When did Gasmilla’s ‘Aboodatui’ surfaced on Ghana’s musical stream? Undeniably it did very well on the Ghanaian musical market of which he also registered his name on the lips of people who like ‘Azonto’ and gave the DJs a song to mix ‘You go Kill me’ and the likes with.

What Gasmilla was strongly opposing in the publication was about the dance which we all know he does better than Sarkodie and no way would Sarkodie claim ownership of the dance. Sarkodie we all know is not a Dancer but a prolific and creative Rapper so why on earth would a goat claim longer horn than a cow. And if the Dance was his point, then he did not get the whole interview well.

The word ‘Azonto’ was first used in a song by R2Bees with the title ‘Azonto’ . They specifically mentioned that “Azonto is what they will die dancing so ‘twerk’ like a maggot”  If for the Azonto dance, the typical Ga communities should be credited. If for the Azonto music, and who made it popular globally of which Fuse ODG perched his musical prowess with to gain recognition, it is and undeniably is Sarkodie.

And anyway is Azonto a genre of Music in Ghana already?

And even if Sarkodie does not have the audacity to claim ownership of ‘Azonto’ it shouldn’t and can never be Gasmilla to reecho that to Ghanaians.

This is an UGLY TRUTH!
