A 36-year-old woman, Atta Yagyiri, was in the evening of last Sunday clubbed to death by her husband, Dakurah Yagyiri, at Tizaa Zampare in the Gyirapa District in the Upper West Region, after the husband accused her of gossiping about him.
Dakurah, 40, who had just returned home from town, was said to have rained insults on the wife leading to a scuffle.
The Acting Upper West Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP Edmund Nyamekye, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said Atta had engaged in a conversation with a friend in front of their room following which Dakurah, who had returned from town, accused her and the friend of gossiping about him.
He said Atta reacted to the accusation and this resulted in the scuffle
ASP Nyamekye said Dakurah, during the ensuing confrontation, went to pick a huge stick and clubbed his wife till she fell unconscious and died.
He said Dakurah, upon realising the seriousness of the condition of the wife, escaped from the scene and had not been found.
The body of Atta has been deposited at the Wa Hospital morgue.
ASP Nyamekye said the police had mounted a search for Darkurah and appealed to the people to help apprehend him.
