General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says he is ready to offer his services on part-time to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) if it ‘fires’ its General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John.
According to him, Sir John’s premature endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addo as his preferred candidate for Presidential elections in 2016 has deepened the cracks within the NPP.
General Mosquito, as he is sometimes called, was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.
NPP General Secretary, Sir John has come under fire for leading a campaign to have Nana Akufo-Addo elected as flagbearer ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Although Nana Akufo-Addo has failed twice at attempts to become President, Sir John and some party executives believe he (Nana Akufo-Addo) is the best Presidential candidate for the 2016 elections.
However, other leading members of the NPP have condemned Sir John’s endorsement. They say his open endorsement is ill-timed.
Asiedu Nketia on Ekosii Sen also criticised Sir John’s fervent endorsement of Akufo-Addo even before the party opens nominations later this year.
He said Sir John, as General Secretary, should have known better than allow his personnel preference cloud his judgement.
The NDC General Secretary intimated that Sir John’s preference for Nana Akufo-Addo exposes his bias towards other party members who may be lacing their boots to contest the flagbearership slot – a situation he fears could destroy the NPP.
General Mosquito wonders what Sir John will do to the nomination forms of other people who might contest Akufo-Addo for the party’s flagbearership position.
He said Sir John has compromised his position and thus must resign to save what is left of his dwindling integrity within the party.
“I think Sir John is cursed, anytime he opens his mouth, trouble for the NPP. I think he should heed to the Supreme Court advice and stop talking in the media for a while” General Mosquito said.
In place of Sir John, Asiedu-Nketia sarcastically urged the NPP leadership to hire him temporarily as General Secretary until the party elects a competent person permanently.
He was convinced the NPP will not reject his “juicy offer”, given the ‘dilemma’ Sir John has plunged the party into.
Asiedu Nketia indicated that Akufo-Addo may be third-time lucky to lead NPP in 2016 with him presiding over NPP’s delegates’ congress.
