Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has rubbished the call by former President John Jerry Rawlings’s on Ghanaians to celebrate Justice William Atuguba, presiding Judge of the nine member panel of Justices that heard the election petition case.
Describing the former president’s call as “mischievous”, he opined that Mr Rawlings’ true intentions is to fuel the debate that Justice Atuguba’s judgement was “bias”.
“He (President Rawlings) is causing mischief and I admire him and I encourage him to continue to do that. He is calling for continuous debate on Atuguba and his decision. I applaud Mr. Rawlings for doing that. It’s a welcome mischief,” he said.
Former President John Jerry Rawlings over the weekend told a congregation at the University of Development Studies, where an honorary doctorate degree was conferred on him that, Justice William Atuguba saved Ghana from implosion.
According to him, “just when this country appeared to be at the brink of anarchy, the Supreme Court, under the able leadership of Her Lordship, the Chief Justice and the resolve of the Chairman of the Panel hearing the NPP election petition, Justice Atuguba, order and sanity were restored.”
Mr. Rawlings was of the view that, “reckless talk was replaced with cowardly silence; logic and humility then prevailed” adding that, to him, “Justice Atuguba is the man of the decade”
But in an interview with Adom FM, outspoken Kofi Jumah also known in political circles as Kofi Ghana opined that “He (Rawlings) said Atuguba is the man of the decade…hmm hmm! He should go to Makola and listen to what the people are saying there whether indeed Atuguba is really the man of the decade.”
“Atuguba should be condemned. For me I will condemned him…he is a man of no honour,” he asserted.
