Poetry is gradually gaining grounds in Ghana and eventually becoming a recognized arts form and profession worth considering. Ms. Rhoda Ndo, a 18 year old,student of Action Senior Technical School demonstrated tremendous talent to win the just ended second edition of the annual ‘Skola Poetry Jam’.
In its second year, the grand finale of the 2013 Skola Poetry Jam took place at the Action Secondary Technical School on Saturday, 5th October 2013 and witnessed an amazing display of creativity by all four finalists. The other contestants in the competition were Ayuba Huudu from Anisa High School, Mannan Seidu from Accra High School and Hidaya Cisse Osman of Ghana Lebanon Islamic Senior High School. Mr. Faisal Bashiru, C.E.O of the Quest Multimedia and organizers of the ‘Skola Poetry Jam’, revealed his excitement at success of the 2013 edition, after the competition.
“This year has been great, with the contribution from the various high schools as well as the students. This shows the relevance of poetry and how it could be used as a tool to develop the younger generation”. For her prize, Ms. Rhoda Ndo wins an all-expense paid two-week spoken word, writing and performance workshop organized by Urban Word in the United States Of America in January 2014 plus a cash prize of GHC1,000.
The other three finalists will also participate in the two-week spoken word, writing and performance workshop organized by Urban Word in the United States Of America as their consolation prices. This event is sponsored by La Casera, Turkish Airline, Ya-Bash Ent and Beige Capital.
