Ghana will witness economic growth and job creation for youths next year – Prez. Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that new doors of opportunities will be opened in the country in 2014.

He mentioned economic growth and job creation for the youth as some of the chances that the nation would witness next year.

President Mahama gave the assurance at the national thanksgiving service of Aglow International-Ghana at the Independence Square in Accra last Saturday.

The service was to thank God for guiding the nation through another year.

Women from the 10 regions attended the intercessory prayers.

Prayers, praise songs and dancing by women from all walks of life characterised the service.

The congregation said prayers for continued peace and development in Ghana and for God’s guidance for the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature.

Challenging year 

The President said Ghana faced some challenges this year, including the eight-month election petition, electricity crisis, labour unrest and market fires.

He said the economy had started producing positive results and indicated that members of his team would continue to work more aggressively next year to inject more pace into the growth of the economy.

He mentioned the recent inauguration of the Bui Dam and the soon-to-be-completed Ghana Gas Infrastructure Project at Atuabo in the Western Region as pointers to efforts at filling the gaps in the energy supply chain.

President Mahama said despite the challenges the country faced this year, it witnessed relative peace.

That continued peace, he said, meant that God’s favour was on Ghana.

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to stay united and have faith in the ability of the nation to develop.

Commendation 

The President commended members of Aglow International-Ghana for their intercessory prayers during the difficult period.

He said their prayers and those by other religious bodies contributed to the peace and stability in Ghana and stressed the need for all Ghanaians to continue to pray for the nation.

The National President of Aglow International-Ghana, Mrs Dorothy Danso, said the fact that the country went through difficulties, such as the election petition, strikes by workers and energy crisis this year but Ghanaians continued to live in peace indicated that God’s favour was on Ghana.

The National Prayer Director of Aglow International-Ghana, Mrs Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, urged Ghanaians to eschew evil in all their dealings.

She said God’s mercies would continue to be on Ghana if the people stayed away from sin.

Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie asked President Mahama to walk through a door symbolising the cross over into 2014.

He also watered a flower as a sign of progress in government, abundance of food and political and economical stability for the country.
