Three companies that were advanced money by the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) are to refund an amount of GH¢55 million, with interest, to the state.
The refund has been necessitated by actions taken by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, on the directives issued by President John Dramani Mahama.
The affected companies — RLG Communications, ACI and Craftpro — are said to have written to accept the terms for the refund of the money after meeting with the Attorney General.
The ACI is refunding GH¢41,305,373.80; RLG is paying GH¢7,132,488.38, while Craftpro is obligated to pay back GH¢7,458,806.39.
According to Mrs Appiah-Oppong, she had issued the companies with an agreed terms of payment, including interests to be calculated on the amount.
She said she had, over the last few weeks, worked to implement a number of directives by the President on issues relating to corruption and malfeasance.
A team of lawyers from the A-G’s Department is currently working on the reports of the Auditor General spanning the period 2006 to 2012.
Per the President’s directive, the Attorney General will prosecute offenders, where appropriate, and also institute measures to retrieve funds misappropriated and captured in the Auditor General’s reports.
