IGP to criminals “You can run but you can’t hide”

11485086.295The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Alhassan, says the Police Service will fiercely tackle criminal activities in the country, which usually peaks during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

He said the Police remains resolute in its determination to root out criminals in the country.

“You can hide, but you can’t run,” he warned criminals.

Mr. Mohammed Alhassan’s assurance follows the arrest of two suspected kidnappers who are alleged to have been abducting children at various churches in Accra.

The suspects, Ernest Kwabena Koomson and Isaac Nite, were arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command in Darkuman on Sunday.

The nefarious activities of the kidnappers, according to the IGP, started from December 1, 2013 at the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC). The two suspects hit again on December 8 and December 16, 2013 at two different churches in Accra.

“I wish to assure the general public that…the Police will strive to make Ghana safe”, the IGP reiterated at a press conference at the Police headquarters on Sunday.

He revealed further that in all the kidnapping cases, the children were released unharmed at locations indicated by the kidnappers after a ransom had been paid.

The last victim, a boy, had been held by the kidnappers in a rented room in a compound house at Darkuman, in Accra.

The IGP also revealed that the Police Service in the Accra Region have visited 70 churches in the city to sensitise parents about the new trend of child kidnapping by criminals.

Although the suspected kidnappers have been apprehended, the IGP says the public must be wary of ‘”copy cuts” who may try to emulate their activities.
