NPP need to research and relegate leaders whose presence is keeping us in opposition – Apraku

imagesFor the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to continuously fall behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in two consecutive national elections shows that there must be something wrong somewhere and the only way to cure this problem is to undertake an immediate overhaul in leadership.

The above was observed by Dr. Konadu Apraku when he laid down the statistics to show that the NPP has been raking in bad records since ex-president Kufuor’s exit from office.

According to him, the current crop of leaders the NPP have now, belong to a category that believe that they don’t have what it takes to pull a chunk of votes from their opponent’s stronghold.

Speaking on OKAY FM, the former minister stated that before Mr. Kufuor came to power, he managed to pull 57% of votes from the Central Region alone.

He compared that figure to Nana Addo’s 46.20% in 2008 and the 45% he pulled in he 2012 general elections, maintaining that they must conduct a research to find out why that occurred.

Dr. Apraku went on to discuss the abysmal performance the NPP put up in the Volta Region stating that they previously recorded a 13.94% in terms of votes, but could now boast of 12.93%. Under the direction of the current leaders of the NPP, Dr. Apraku explains that records from the Brong Ahafo Region are appalling.

“We used to get 48% of votes to our side but we only have 47% now. The Upper East Region used to be 34% but it is now 29%. Upper West stood at 37% but it is 29% now. When it comes to Ashanti Region (considered as the NPP’s stronghold), the NDC has managed to mobilize almost 30% of votes which used not to be like that in the past,” he explained.

He ended by suggesting that there is an urgent need for the party to undertake a research and relegate leaders whose presence in the party is keeping them in opposition.
