NPP’s survival is in Kufuor’s hands – Nyaho Tamakloe

download (8)Founder member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, has warned the party will fail if it does not heed to the advice of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Mr Kufuor has been loud on his call for unity in the party and Dr Tamakloe says the party must listen to his call.

“This is a man with enormous political experience; I don’t think there is anyone in this country who has practical political experience than Kufuor. We must count ourselves lucky when we have such a person in the party. If the NPP wants to survive, we have to listen to J.A Kufuor” he stressed.

Nyaho Tamakloe was commenting on the seeming intolerance creeping into the party ahead of its delegate congress in March 2014.

Some leading members of the party launched a scathing attack on presidential hopeful, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku for asking delegates to vote for a candidate more appealing to voters.

They claim Dr. Apraku’s comment was an apparent attack on Nana Akufo-Addo who led the party in two unsuccessful elections.

He has since been invited by the party’s Council of Elders to explain the motive for his call.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe said the craze of personality attacks and insults is alien to NPP’s body politic.

He described as unfortunate how the philosophy of freedom of speech in the NPP has been thrown to the dogs and individuals are attacked for expressing their opinions.

“I join the political party I thought everyone had the right to speak his mind provided you don’t offend anyone but lately it appears individuals cannot speak their minds which is dangerous for democracy. I see such behaviour in communist parties and I don’t believe the NPP is a communist party” he stressed.

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe averred that most party elders including former President Kufuor are quiet for fear of being attacked by “over enthusiastic people we are not even sure whether they are members of the party”.

He blamed the National Executive for failing to ensure the elders in the party are accorded the needed respect.

“The National Executives have failed; if I had a vote I will vote them out, but those who are going to vote will definitely vote them out”.

The NPP man stated that the main problem facing the party is intolerance and if that is not nipped in the bud it will destroy the NPP.

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe said “the party must examine itself, know where the problem is and the answer will be very easy to apply”.
