I am among the 1st ten critics of Shatta Wale, I had used words to bash his actions and inactions for some time now and for the consistency in criticizing him, I was tagged ‘Shatta Wale Hater’. Even though in my opinion I criticize him objectively but loyal fans of the Dancehall King has/had a different spectacle of viewing it.
In as much as I report when he is mischievous, I have to do same when he does something great. At the Afrobeatz festival organized by BBNZ at the Independence Square, he was among the best performers of the night if not the best. With great delivery of 27 songs non-stop, the response from the fans was amazing. Every line of the song he mimed was partly sung by more than half or all the crowd. One song which was new to many even though some sung along was ‘Too Late’
The song surfaced on the internet a day after he performed it at the Afrobeatz Festival on 14th December, 2013. I replied Armani, the Publisher of www.ghxclusives.com when he broadcasted the song with this phrase ‘amazing piece’. He hurriedly replied in Pidgin English ‘Waa, I fell’.
The slow tempo song which addresses some of the hard times he has been through, the betrayal of his close friends and even family members is so far the matured song ever from the camp of Shatta Wale (my opinion). It is a subject everyone can relate to and it is a song which magnets the attention of the listener to the end.
Ghana’s version of Kanye West, Shatta Wale revealed in the song that, even though it is too late to apologise for the heinous times they (his betrayers) dragged him through, he has forgiven them totally and has given his whole life to God (hallelujah!)
Honestly, it is matured in the sense of how well the song was arranged, the subject of forgiveness which according to the Bible applauds louder. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong (Mahatma Gandhi).
This piece is to appreciate his great effort and the maturity that he (Shatta Wale) showed in the song (too late). I promise to be an ambassador to see to the blowing of the song.
All the best in your future endeavours Shatta Wale!
