Prez. Mahama deserves commendation for surviving these turbulent times – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is assuring Ghanaians of better socio-economic conditions in 2014.

He said the Mahama-led administration has laid a solid foundation and stimulated the economy for accelerated development next year.

General Mosquito as he is popularly called, was commenting on the achievement and challenges of government in 2013 on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.

He said the economy is currently producing positive results especially in the energy sector, an indication that government is committed to delivering on its Better Ghana Agenda promise.

Citing the completion of the 400 megawatts Bui Hydroelectric power project as an example, Asiedu Nketia noted that incessant power outages known in local parlance as “dumsor” will be a thing of the past.

The NDC scribe added that when the Ghana Gas Infrastructure Project at Atuabo in the Western Region comes on stream, there will be no deficit in energy supply in the country.

“Energy management has been one of the major achievements of the Mahama administration, and within the first quarter of next year, there would be a permanent solution to the energy crisis” he stated.

But General Mosquito mentioned the presidential election petition and the fire outbreaks as the biggest challenge of government.

According to him, the eight-month-petition challenging the legitimacy of President Mahama at the Supreme Court affected his [Mahama] morale and investor confidence in the country.

General Mosquito indicated that the court case affected government business because people were not willingly to invest in the country for fear of regime change.

This notwithstanding, Asiedu Nketia said President Mahama deserves commendation for surviving these turbulent times.

He stressed that since there will be no election petition in 2014; the best of the president is yet to come.
