Vicky Hammah ill; adjourn to allow me recover and gather needed evidence to assist the Committee

imagesDismissed Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hamah, will not appear today, as scheduled, before the Committee set up by the Chief Justice to investigate the vikileaks saga, according to Accra-based private radio station, XYZ.

The eight-member Committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice, Prof Samuel Date-Bah, has been tasked to probe Ms. Hamah’s gossipy claim, on a leaked secretly recorded tape, that Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, may have influenced the final verdict of the nine-member panel of Justices that heard the election petition case.

A petition by the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) necessitated the Chief Justice’s probe.

Oye Lithur, wife of the President’s Lawyer, Tony Lithur, in the election petition hearing, has denied the allegation.

Besides petitioning the Chief Justice, the NPP also petitioned the leadership of Parliament to probe the matter.

The Committee, on November 25, 2013, wrote to invite Ms. Hamah to appear before it to assist its work.

In Ms Hamah’s response letter to the Committee, dated November 30, as ferreted out by XYZ News, she acknowledged receipt of the letter of invitation but noted: “However, I sincerely regret to inform you that I am currently indisposed and will be unable to appear on the scheduled day”.

She nonetheless expressed willingness to appear on a different date once she gets better.

According to her, “an adjournment, if granted, will not only allow for my effective recovery, but provide reasonable time to gather the needed evidence and other related materials that will assist the Committee in its work”.
