“We are working to remove all schools under trees between now and 2016” Prez. Mahama promises

In view of this, President Mahama said “we are working to remove all schools under trees. So we have built quite a number of them. Between now and 2016, we are hoping that we will be able to completely clear all the schools under trees.”

The government in 2012, began what it termed the serialization of 1,775 schools it constructed to replace the over 4,000 schools under trees, it inherited in 2009.

The Danquah Institute’s however, disputed the claims indicating that only 480 schools under trees have been eliminated.

But President Mahama in his address to some school children at the Flagstaff House in Accra mentioned that removing schools under trees has been one of his topmost priorities.

He says his administration through the district assemblies would work effectively and efficiently to meet the target so that every child can go to school comfortably.

“The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the Ministry of Education, are going to work with your district assemblies to make sure that, we roll out as many classroom blocks in order that we are able to eliminate schools under trees,” he said emphatically.
