The National Coordinator of Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Kobby Acheampong has stated that the termination of all service contracts by government was because the companies involved “did not meet the value for money audit” which was undertaken by GYEEDA.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday issued a statement declaring that all service contracts being provided by Rlg Communication, Asongtaba Cottage Industry & Exchange Programme (ACI&EP) and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group, the parent company of Zoomlion had been terminated.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, Mr. Acheampong explained that the “internal mechanisms and structures in GYEEDA were not adequate to meet the kind of services” the companies were providing.
He also stated that decision is part of processes to ensure the re-structuring of GYEEDA to make its operations more effective.
Mr. Acheampong revealed a legal framework is currently being prepared with support from the Attorney General’s Department because GYEEDA “had no legal framework in place.”
According to him, the internal workings and control mechanisms is also under re-structuring because “if you allow people to come and provide services that require government to spend money on it, then there was need to actively monitor and evaluate how these services were being run.”
He added that nobody will be affected by the ongoing re-structuring of GYEEDA due to the fact that “as of July 2013, everybody who was on the GYEEDA module has exited the programme” and monies owed them have been paid by government.
In a related development, the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has lauded government for taking steps to address the corruption saga which hit the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
According to the Programmes Officer of the GII, Linda Ofori Kwafo, the punitive measures being taken by government on the issues of GYEEDA “should be holistic and everybody who played a role should be made to answer.”
