Media Commission is not doing their work well that’s why sexually and politically incorrect songs are popular – Okyeame Kwame

Arguably Best Rapper Alive (BRA) in Ghana, Okyeame Kwame has shared his intelligence with Ghana Media Commission via OC Showbiz Review. With immense experience in the music industry, Okyeame Kwame is mostly consulted anytime anyone needs clarity on the history, way forward and pros of music brewed in Ghana.

On OC Showbiz Review (Skyy Power FM in Takoradi) which is gradually becoming the ground for Entertainment Reporters to dig stories, Nana Kwame the Master Planner asked Okyeame Kwame if MUSIGA has the right to ban music.

Okyeame Kwame’s in-depth explanation enlightened the Pundits as well as the listeners, www.233times.net gathered. In his words “Well, nobody actually has the right to ban music in this country. You can disassociate on it if you think that the song doesn’t augur well for people but based on our constitution, you can ban visuals but it will be difficult to ban audios because it borders on the line of freedom of speech since music is in words. However the media commission could regulate it so that in the morning say 8 o’clock to 9 pm, songs that are sexually suggestive or politically incorrect can be played at night when children are sleeping. When that happens, you are controlling and regulating it.”

The Rapper who doubles as the PRO for MUSIGA says Musicians make their money from music so would love to have their songs played during the day for a wider audience so if the Media Commission, the mother of media houses in Ghana regulates the play of “sexually or politically incorrect” songs by playing them when almost half of the population are in bed, it would help “sway people playing sexually suggestive songs to play otherwise that is how you can regulate it but you can’t say I’ve banned it”

“Have you realized that in the world songs which are banned even become hits and further become classic, so banning a song is not the most intelligent way of dealing with control” Okyeame Kwame further detailed.

Songs like ‘aben wo ha,’ A.B. Crentil’s song were banned because they were bad for human consumption but that did not stop people from listening to them so the idea of the ban is only successful when they are able to stop people from listening to it, according to Okyeame Kwame who educated the listeners of the Show (OC Showbiz Review).

The father of two said the most intelligent way is “when the media commission decides that this song is not good very good for children so we will play it at night, after 11 pm when children are sleeping. When this happens, all Musicians playing such songs will stop but banning it would even make it extremely popular.”

So if a song like ‘tonga’ wins the most popular song of the year would you be disappointed in the Organisers of the event? Nana Kwame inquired. “No! I will never be disappointed, never! Never! Never! Because somebody is not doing his job that is why that has happened and it is not the MUSIGA, nor the media, it is the Media Commission and their lack of control on contents that is why it has become popular. I will be happy ‘tonga’ wins most popular song of the year so that the Media Commission will wake up.”

Okyeame Kwame mentions that the controlling of the contents is the sole responsibility of the Media Commission. He further refuted the rumour that he wants to resign as PRO of MUSIGA neither is he aiming the presidency of the Union.
