Emmanuel Adebayor has admitted that even his family thought he was rubbish during the dark days at Tottenham under Andre Villas-Boas.
The striker, who scored twice at the weekend and has been a revelation under new manager Tim Sherwood, struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane when AVB was in charge and claimed it could not have been any worse.
‘I was right at the bottom of the hole’, Adebayor told The Sun. ‘Even people in my own country, people from my own family, criti
‘They said, “You’re rubbish and whatever you did before in your career was luck.”
‘But the new coach (Sherwood) trusted me. He gave me the keys to all the doors of the club and said, “Do what you want to do and make yourself at home”.’
Adebayor now has five Premier League goals for the season after his double against Swansea and since he’s come back into the side Tottenham have won every away game.
And his two goals against Swansea took him above Dennis Bergkamp in the all-time Premier League goalscoring charts.
