President John Dramani Mahama has admonished Ghanaians to be on guard and avert any act of terrorism intended against the country.
Speaking to a section of media practitioners in the country at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, President Mahama implore the citizenry to critically analyze issues regarding terrorism, noting that terrorist acts have always been the bane of every country.
He further disclosed that as part of plans by State Heads in the sub region to forestall any terrorist attacks, West African leaders have begun an “anti-terrorism plan” so as to safeguard their nations.
“Together, all our countries are contributing to work on preventing terrorism. And so, it’s something we need to discuss and think about ways and means to prevent not only within our country but within our sub-regions, within our continent and all over the world…We will continue to prepare our nation in the event that there’s any such an attack.”
He therefore advised the citizenry to be “alert about the issues of terrorism”, further stating that “nowhere in this world is any country safe from the scourge of terrorism. Ghana so far has been lucky to have been spared any direct terrorist attacks but we must not rest on our oars and assume that we’re immune from terrorist attacks.”
He pledged government’s commitment to prepare the “nation in the event that there’s any such an attack.” |
