Ex Prez Kufuor loses younger sister

images (2)MADAM JOSEPHINE Kankam, a younger sister of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has died at the age of 67.

She reportedly died at her home at Akwatia Line, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The late Madam Kankam was survived by two children, one of whom is the current Apagyahene, Nana Owusu Afriyie.

She was said to be the youngest of ex-President Kufuor’s surviving siblings. Her body had since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

Nana Owusu Afriyie, the Apagyahene, confirmed the sad news to DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview yesterday.

The paper learnt that Madam Kankam was recently hospitalized at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, after she was taken ill.

She reportedly recovered after spending some days at the hospital and was discharged.

Sadly and unexpectedly, however, Madam Kankam died on Wednesday morning at a time her close relations thought she had fully recovered.

Kufuor Dashes To K’si

Former President Kufuor rushed to Kumasi from Accra on Wednesday afternoon after learning about his sister’s passing.

The Apagyahene told the paper that the former President travelled to Kumasi immediately he was informed of the bad news.

Other important personalities in the city including traditional leaders also rushed to the place to console the bereaved family, notably, the Apagyahene.

Sources said people were wailing at the Apagyafie, the palace of Apagyahene and the Akwatia Line home of Madam Kankam, for the most part of Wednesday.
