A leading member of breakaway National Democratic Party, Dr. Josiah Aryeh has blamed the country’s economic woes on “thieves” hired by the president to fill critical positions in government.
According to Dr. Josiah Aryeh, the situation has denied Ghana of good leaders who can change the fortunes of the nation for the better.
“I compare certain people [in government]…to a gang of thieves; they go stealing in the night” and “keep the booty to themselves,” Dr. Aryeh told supporters at the party’s regional delegate’s congress held in Kumasi, Saturday.
“…how come that when given the freedom of choice to out of our own volution we have been such a way that we end up in a situation and the condition of real (sic) leaderlessness; yes indeed we are leaderless.
“We are without a manager [president]…Even law professors are scratching their heads as to how this can come about because, we believe that the Ghanaian deserves the best and we can do better than we are experiencing right now” a charged Dr. Aryeh stated.
He condemned government for “denying Ghanaians their political and economic rights” by excluding certain people from sharing in the distribution of the nation’s resources.
He therefore charged the delegates to work hard to propagate the NDP’s ideals to ensure that the party captures power from the NDC come the next elections in 2016.
“…And that’s why we must extricate ourselves from this…slumber,” he told the delegates.
The former General Secretary for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) received applause from the gathering including former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
A nine-member executive, chaired by a health assistant at the KNUST Primary School, Kwame Owusu Ansah, was sworn into office.
The NDP, led by the former First Lady broke away from the governing National Democratic Congress in the run up to the 2012 general elections.
