An Employee Performance Management System, a 2014-2017 strategic plan is being implemented by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to become the leading electricity distributor in Africa.
The plan is designed to constructing a number of lines, injecting of transformers and distributing levels throughout its operational area.
In furtherance of this, the ECG has commenced re-engineering a number of internal processes to meet requirements of modern service oriented company, adopt an integrated strategic planning and performance system based on internationally acclaimed score card methodology.
The Revered William Hutton-Mensah, the managing director of ECG made these known at the inaugurating of a GH1.4million office complex of the company at New Edubiase last Friday.
Since 2007, the company had been operating in New Edubiase in rented premises which had a heavy financial toll on its finances.
“The company had embarked on capital investments aimed at ensuring quality, reliable and safe electricity service to support growth and development of the country since our primary obligation is to keep the lights on as long as the technical conditions in the generation and transmission sectors permit,” he said.
The Rev. Hutton-Mensah expressed worry that the recent power generation challenges had rubbed negatively on the company resulting in the public blaming them, but was quick to add that the ECG was working very had with other partners in the energy sector to resolve the challenges as soon as practicable.
He said in the Ashanti Region, the distribution network improvement projects included reconfiguration of the existing 11kv network, construction of 33kv circuit from Barekese to Offinso as well as 33kv double circuit tower to interconnect primary, and switching stations in the Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions, and also conversion of the Ejisu 33kv outdoor transformers at various strategic locations.
Rev. Hutton-Mensah assured that the projects would ensure reliability, operating flexibility, reduction in system losses, improved quality of supply and increased capacity to meet new energy demands.
He, however, lamented that land acquisition to site offices and other network facilities was a major constraint and appealed to chiefs and other custodians of land of assist the company to acquire suitable parcels of land to expand its projects.
Nana Akua Dwum, divisional queeenmother of New Edubiase, who chaired the function called for quality service in the face of new tariffs and urged the company to inform the public as to and when the lights would be switched off to enable customers to plan ahead. |
