Kumasi trotro drivers on strike

timthumb (1)Trotro drivers  plying the Tech junction to the central business district in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have embarked on a strike.

According to Citi FM’s Ashanti regional correspondent Hawa Iddrisu, the drivers have embarked on a strike to protest what they describe as extortion by the Police in the region.

The strike, she said,  has left some residents in the area stranded and frustrated.

She revealed that “over thousands of people have gathered at the Tech junction and are very frustrated,”  adding that the passengers “don’t even know where to get a bus to get to their destination.”

“Police officers are refusing to give the drivers a bus terminal to offload passengers on board” adding that the problem is causing unnecessary traffic in the region.”

She noted that in that regard, the drivers in the region are therefore asking the city authorities to talk to the police officers to curb the incidence of extortion in the region.
