Ghana defender Lee Addy’s dreams of making a second successive World Cup appearance has been dealt a heavy blow after damaging his left knee in the Croatian elite division.

The former Red Star Belgrade player who was hoping to break into the Black Stars squad for the global football festival to be staged in Brazil was stretched off the pitch in the 9th minute at Rejika.

Dinamo Zagreb’s team doctors carried out a scan and have ruled the guardsman out for the rest of the season that could affect largely his World Cup recall.

“The review of the first diagnosis confirmed Lee Addy has a subtotal rupture of the interior cruciate ligament and tearing of the lateral meniscus of the left knee,” the doctors said.

The 23-year-old was part of the Black Stars squad that finished as quarter-finalists at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
