Mark ‘Idi Amin’ Okraku Mantey should withdraw Kumi Guitar from ‘New Artiste’ list

download (2)www.233times.net published the nomination list of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2014 the day after it was released (March 3, 2014) . The category many people bemoaned since this medium published the list was the ‘New Artiste of the year.’

This category nominated 3 names (Joey B, Kumi Guitar and Akwaboah) of which Showbiz fanatics in chorus frowned on one of the names; Kumi Guitar.

According to many people who have followed the proceedings of Kumi Guitar, the Highlife Artiste released the song of which he was nominated 2 years ago and has been promoting it since. His manager and savior, Mark ‘Idi Amin’ Okraku Mantey who is pivotal on the board of the awards scheme lobbied for the nomination of his progeny, information available to www.233times.net reveals.

On Social Media, the consumers of music are asking who the said Artiste is and which song(s) qualifies him for that category. Indeed his nomination has exposed his song, name and works to the public recently but for the sake of credibility, Charter House should do the honour and for the first time be brave and tell Mark ‘Idi Amin’ Okraku Mantey, NO!

His ‘1 litre’ song which makes his Manager confident that his Artiste is a sure banker for the New Artiste of the year category is a matured piece undeniably, but for the sake of this award, it is highly unqualified!

No need to compare Artistes who tower over Kumi Guitar in that category and were not nominated but for the sake of clarity, Kumi Guitar in the year of review did not do better than Mz Vee, Phootprintz and Kofi Kinaata.

Until the Nigerian Organisation which organizes awards for Ghanaian Musicians exclude Artiste Managers from the board, many Ghanaians would annually doubt the credibility of Ghana Music Awards and Charter House.

It’s high time the Creative Arts Ministry and Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) organize credible Awards for Ghanaian Musicians who are topping up the revenue of the State.
