Nana Addo’s comeback is a wake up call for Prez. Mahama -Tony Aidoo

dr-tony-aidooAmbassador-designate, Dr Tony Aidoo says Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to contest the New Patriotic Party’s ticket for the 2016 presidential election is a wake up call for President John Dramani Mahama.

He said Nana Addo’s decision was in the national interest because it would intensify competition at the 2016 polls.

Speaking on Joy FM, Dr Aidoo said, “It is going to be a match between the youth and the aged to the extent that Mahama has to put confidence in the youth and it means, that administration must not fail.”

He however, noted that politics was also a psychological game, which meant that, “the electorate will then think that the youth are not capable of delivering what we want and therefore a reversal to the aged.”

Expressing optimism that President Mahama stood the chance of winning the 2016 elections, he said the electorate would not forgive Nana Addo for bringing the nation to the brink in his “ambitious” political career.

“Nana Addo must realise that on two occasions he has brought the nation to the brink in his ambition to be president in 2008, his side trying to steal the elections by nefarious means and the tension that it created and then 2012 going to court without any justifiable cause… But I believe that well over 5 million people are going to remember and they will remember it in terms of the ambition of Nana Akufo Addo to become president and I think those people will vote against him,” he asserted.

Dr Aidoo also noted that Nana Addo would also have to fight the battle of the youth against the aged within the NPP during the party’s primaries, adding that, “I think a person like Alan Kyeremanteng is going to give him a good run for it.”

Nana Akufo-Addo, who turns 70 on March 29, 2014, says he will for the third time contest to run for presidential election in 2016 on the ticket of the NPP at age 72.
