President John Mahama has appealed for support from the Swedish government for Ghana’s renewable energy plans.
Ghana is presently facing serious challenges in the energy sector, resulting in erratic power supply.
Speaking at a meeting with visiting Crown Princess of Sweden, Lady Victoria, President Mahama said Ghana is considering options in renewable energy.
He said Ghana is “trying to see how we can associate our development and the growth of our economy with green technology and green energy.”
He acknowledged that Sweden is known for having a lot of capacity in the area of renewable energy, “especially with regards to generating power from biomass, waste energy, wind energy and all that.”
The President pointed out that exploring solar energy in Ghana will be successful because “we have a lot of sunlight and so solar has a lot of potential here.”
Ghana is currently facing energy crisis which is affecting some major sectors of the country’s economy.
But the stakeholders in the energy sector have given the assurance the problem will be resolved soon.
