This should be the last time Jake is commenting on corruption – Asiedu Nketia

downloadThe General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has advised the chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from commenting on issues of corruption in Ghana.

“Advise Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey not to comment on corruption in this country at all. This should be his last time of commenting on corruption,” he said.

He issued this advice following a statement by Mr. Lamptey, accusing the NDC government of corruption and running the country’s  economy  down, thereby imposing hardship on Ghanaians.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, Mr. Asiedu Nketia recalled that the NPP chairman, during his tenure as Minister of State under the Kufuor administration refurbished his official bungalow and sold it to himself at a reduced rate.

He also mentioned that Mr. Lamptey awarded the contract of renovation of the Osu Castle, which was then the seat of government to about 12 companies including his own “and you signed a cheque to pay yourself as the Minister for Presidential Affairs in 2001.”

The NDC General Secretary therefore concluded that Mr. Lamptey has no moral right to comment on matters of corruption.

In response, the NPP’s Chairman questioned why Mr. Asiedu Nketia did not provide evidence of his acts of corruption to the Supreme Court regarding the sale of the state bungalow when he had the chance to.

“They had four years in which to come and prove that I was corrupt over the leasing of the land; the matter was at the Supreme Court; he didn’t come and bring any evidence to show any evidence of my being corrupt,” he said.

He insisted that the allegations of corruption being leveled against him are “totally, totally, absolute fabrications.”
