Confusion at Legon as 500 Students denied exams sitting

images (1)The campus of the University of Ghana, Legon, was thrown into a state of confusion following refusal by school authorities to allow over 500 matured students to sit for their exams.

The ‘Diploma in Youth in Development Work’ students were supposed to start the exams at 10 am Saturday, but as at 12:00 midday, the exams has not started, prompting outrage from aggrieved students.

Displeased students told Joy News, although they have registered for the exams online at a fee of GH¢130.00, they arrived at the examination centre only to be informed that they would not be writing their papers because they failed to pay GH¢300 as tuition.

Only 277 students were allowed to sit for the exams, according to a notice on eligible students from school authorities.

One angry student told Joy News when they gained admission into the university to read the course, it was not indicated that they must sit in class or pay for tuition before being allowed to sit for the exams.

Meanwhile, the university authorities were not available for comments on the matter.

Although peeved, students are leaving the campus and calm is returning to the university.
