EPA will be the worst agreement ever to be endorsed in Ghana – Kwesi Pratt Jnr

download (10)Managing Editor of the “Insight” newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., says government’s intended decision to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will be the “worst agreement ever” to be endorsed in the annals of Ghana’s history.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold‘s “Alhaji and Alhaji” programme, Kwesi Pratt stated emphatically that any agreement with the European Union to create a conducive business environment as specified under the EPA will spell doom for the nation.

He wondered why the country is rushing to sign the agreement when her neighbouring countries have refused to give their consent to the initiative.

Kwesi Pratt noted that several West and Southern African States all seem to have withdrawn from approving the EPA. According to him, “there will be massive job losses” in the country” and believed it will be a big mistake for the Government of Ghana to agree to sign.

“The Southern African States have refused to sign the EPA. The Eastern African States have refused to sign the EPA…Why are we in a rush to sign an agreement which clearly is not in our interest at all…?

“I think that this will be perhaps the worst agreement ever to be signed by a Ghanaian Government because the repercussions on our economy will be huge…There will be massive revenue losses and indeed we shall lose control of the economy,” he said.
