THE TWO armed robbers who were arrested by the Tema police for allegedly robbing two people after cashing various sums of money from banks, have been sentenced to imprisonment term of 30 years each with hard labour by a Tema Circuit Court.
Mohammed Armed, 30, motor mechanic who resides at Dome in Accra and Emmanuel Ahiagbede, 23-year-old welder who lives at Accra Newtown – both Libya deportees who specialized in robbing with motorbikes – pleaded guilty with explanation.
According to Emmanuel, his friend Mohammed, convinced him to go into robbing of customers who had cashed monies from banks but the court, presided over by Her Ladyship Lydia Osei-Marfo, did not hesitate to sentence the accused persons to 15 years on the conspiracy charge and 30 years on the robbery.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Adolph Otchere, told the court that on April 1. 2014 at about 3:00 pm the accused persons robbed two victims at separate locations in Tema who had gone to the bank to withdraw cash.
The robbers initially attacked a clearing agent who had cashed a cheque from the Community Two branch of Ecobank and made away with monies he had on him.
They again attacked another customer of the Ghana Commercial Bank, (GCB) at Community One, Tema, according to Chief Inspector Otchere.
Immediately after the second robbery, a police patrol team which was heading towards the Tema Regional Police Headquarters upon information, gave the robbers a hot chase and were nabbed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Zakpa Vib-Sanziri, Tema Regional Police Commander, has warned robbers who see Tema as a safe area to carry out their robbery expedition to rethink because they would not be left off the hook.
