Transport fares won’t be increased – GRTCC denies report

download (9)Chairman of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Bernard Amoabeng Peprah says the council has not decided on a 10 percent upward adjustment in road transport fares.

The Daily Graphic on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 reported that the GRTCC has announced a 10 percent increase in transport fares.

But in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Amoabeng Peprah said “I am not aware that there have been any increase; we have not, we are still even compiling our marketing survey results and we haven’t finished.’’

He expressed surprise at the announcement by the General Secretary of the GRTCC, Alhaji Aliyu Baba of an increase in road transport fares.

‘’I am surprised that this thing is coming from him because he works under me and I am not aware. He is even not in town, I cannot reach him…; I am not part and we [GRTCC] are not aware, ‘’ he said.

According to Mr. Amoabeng Peprah transport fare increase is not based on fuel prices alone, saying the GRTCC check prices of other components like spare parts and other transport related factors.

He however, revealed that the GRTCC has not concluded on new transport fares yet.
