Alan Kyerematen says the thought of NPP losing 2016 elections frightens him

kyerematenA flagbearer aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen says the party is guaranteed victory in the 2016 general election with him as flagbearer.

According to him, his overriding objective is to bring the NPP back to power to redeem Ghanaians from the shackles of poverty.

Mr. Kyerematen made the comment while addressing the members New York Chapter of the NPP inthe United States, Friday.

As the party prepares for its flagbearership race in December, 2014, key party members have expressed interest to vie for the position.

They include twice defeated presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Professopr Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Joe Ghartey and Francis Addai Nimoh.

Some of these presidential hopefuls may have their dreams shuttered because per the NPP’s constitution, if the contestants are  more, a special congress will be held to reduce the number down to five.

But an optimistic Kyerematen told party members in New York that he is the man with the magic wand to bring the party back to power.

“The thought of us losing the 2016 election is “frightening” and “difficult to contemplate. We need to win the elections at all cost” he stressed.

Alan Kyerematen underscored the need for the party to be united for a formidable front to be able to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The presidential hopeful said the NPP risk losing the election without him as flagbearer because “among those vying for the position, I appeal to floating voters”.

“If we fix the party, I still believe that we need to be able to elect a candidate who the people of Ghana will vote because it is all about power; any other consideration must be secondary,” he stated.

Alan Kyerematen appealed to party members to try a new candidate ahead of the 2016 general elections.

“We have a margin of between 300[000] and 500,000 people who always decide the final vote and so I ask for your support because if indeed we can all work together to put me as the next flagbearer, I can assure you that 2016 we’ll be back in power,” he stated
