Do we really need an economic forum?…Alban Bagbin asks

bagbinThe Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo, Alban Sumana Bagbin want to find out whether it’s really worth it for the Mahama-led administration to organize an economic forum to revive Ghana’s ailing economy.

Alban Bagbin’s query add up to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPPs) declaration that the economic forum by government is just a “PR gimmick”.

The NPP has however boycotted the ‘National Economic Forum’ being put together by the government.

The four-day forum, starting Tuesday, May 13, 2014, according to a statement issued by government, is aimed at achieving consensus on policies, strategies and measures that are, required to accelerate Ghana’s transition from a lower middle income nation to an upper middle income economy with sustainable path of development that guarantees improvements in the quality of life for all Ghanaians.

Government, the private sector and cross section of the Ghanaian public are expected to profess plans necessary to address defects in the economy.

However, the NDC legislator, Alban Sumana Bagbin posted on his Facebook wall seeking views as to whether such a forum is needed.
“Do we really need an economic forum? What do you think and why? ” he quizzed.
