Two love birds who managed to rob Cemix Company limited in Accra of huge sums of various foreign currencies have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each by an Accra Fast Track High Court.
Avo Kevorkion is said to have facilitated the robbery of the company with his girlfriend Nana Ama Agyiewaa and one Osei Kwame, now at large, of Ghc75,000, US320,000 and 110,000 Pounds Sterling at gunpoint.
While Kervorkion, a former employee of Cemix Company Limited, dealers in generators, was charged with attempted robbery, Agyeiwaa and Osei were charged with robbery.
Kervokion and Agyeiwaa pleaded not guilty but at the end of the three year trial, they were found guilty and sentenced accordingly by the court presided over by Mr. Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh.
Agyeiwaa, who is said to have confessed to participating in the robbery, `was in constant touch with Kervorkion and together with Osei, attacked Jean Frances of Cemix and made away with the various monies.
According to her, she embarked on the robbery out of duress.
Kervorkion, during Police investigation, revealed that he had prior knowledge of the planned robbery and he directed his accomplices of where the monies could be found.
On November 4, 2011 at about 11:30 hours, Agyiewaa and Osei went to the complainant’s company with a knife and pistol under the pretext of purchasing one of the generators from one Mohammed Fowel, who was then the sales person.
Mohammed informed the complainant who asked the accused persons to come to his office.
Another employee then escorted Agyeiwaa and Osei to the office, where the two convicts expressed interest in buying the generators.
Osei then pulled out a pistol threatening to kill the complainant if he did not obey their instructions.
He said Osei pushed the complainant to the floor and gave his gun to Agyeiwaa to point it at the complainant while he tied him up and they both dragged him to the washroom after which the two returned to ransack the office.
Later the complainant raised an alarm but the accused persons had already jumped into a waiting taxi and bolted.
A Police Officer happened to be driving behind the taxi in which the robbers were escaping in and gave them a chase. Agyeiwaa was arrested while Osei Kwame escaped with the cash.
Avo Kevorkion denied knowing Agyeiwaa and having any communication with her.
