Manchester United could make Louis van Gaal their new manager as early as today.
United are thought to be close to a deal with the Dutchman, whose job as Netherlands boss ends after next month’s World Cup.
Ryan Giggs, who took charge temporarily following David Moyes’ sacking, met van Gaal this week to discuss his role in the new Old Trafford set-up.
Giggs was photographed coming out of a hotel near van Gaal’s home in Noordwijk on Wednesday before returning to England to attend the U21 Premier League final.
Van Gaal, meanwhile, would not comment when asked for the latest by Sky Sports News reporter Gary Cotterill at a book launch in Amsterdam.
But the 62-year-old has already made it clear he would love the chance to succeed Moyes, and a deal is now imminent.
United will be getting a manager who has won the league with all four of his clubs, which include Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Van Gaal also won the Champions League and UEFA Cup during his time as Ajax boss.
Mark Ogden believes the deal to bring Louis van Gaal to Manchester United is pretty much done and dusted.
Van Gaal said a few days ago that United are the biggest club in the world and that he would love to be chosen as their new boss.
Asked about the United job by Dutch media last week, Van Gaal said: “No, I would not say anything about it.
“You must wait until the process is complete. If you want to know more, then you must put questions to Manchester United, or perhaps to another club.
“I cannot say anything further about it.
“I said a few words last week about Manchester United because there were uninvited English journalists here and I thought it would be a little mean spirited if I did not answer a few of their questions.
“I mumbled a few words to them and, from that, they write 60 full pages. But you can’t do anything about it.”
